Jacksonville’s Loss Not a Big Deal

Because Kansas City and San Diego also lost Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars (9-4) have a chance to clinch a postseason berth this weekend against San Francisco. Jacksonville hasn't been to the playoffs since the 1999 season.

"Anything that helps our cause is good," Jags coach Jack Del Rio said Monday, a day after his team's 26-18 loss. "Right now for us, the biggest focus is the 49ers game this week. I haven't had time to look at all those scenarios and implications, but I know (the Chiefs and Chargers) losing had to help our cause."

The Jags need to beat the 49ers (2-11) on Sunday and have Kansas City, San Diego and Pittsburgh lose, and have Denver win or tie. That may happen. The Chiefs play at the New York Giants. Pittsburgh plays at Minnesota, which has won six in a row. The Chargers are at Indianapolis, and Denver is at Buffalo. The Jags need only win two of their final three to guarantee a playoff birth and the final two are against Houston and Tennessee.

"We still have a good shot at what we set out as our main goal — to make the playoffs," running back Fred Taylor said. "If things go like I think they will, we'll win out and get back to the playoffs. And maybe we'll get another shot at the Colts."
