Default Baseball Matchup - ST. Louis @ N.Y. Mets

St. Louis (66-59) at N.Y. Mets (77-48)

The Mets look to complete a three-game sweep of the Cardinals when they send newcomer Dave Williams (2-3, 6.90) to the mound against Jason Marquis (13-11, 5.70).

New York followed up Tuesday’s dramatic 8-7 victory with a 10-8 win on Wednesday. The Mets have won six straight overall and 10 in a row at Shea Stadium, and they’re 28-11 in their last 39 games as a favorite. Meanwhile, the Cardinals dropped to 4-12 in their last 16 road games.

New York leads the season series 3-2, but St. Louis is 24-10 in the last 34 battles.

Marquis snapped a personal four-game losing skid with Saturday’s 11-3 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field, as he gave up three runs and three hits in five innings. This is the righthander’s fourth consecutive start on the road, where he is 6-5 with a 5.30 ERA in 12 contests this year.

Marquis beat the Mets 6-3 back on May 18 in St. Louis, yielding three runs on four hits in 7 2/3 innings. He’s 5-3 with a 3.65 ERA in 17 lifetime appearances (10 starts) against New York.

Williams, who began the season in Cincinnati, makes his second start in a Mets uniform, which is also just his second start since May 18. He went 5 2/3 innings on Sunday against Colorado, giving up three runs and six hits, but didn’t factor in the decision as New York rallied for a 7-4 home victory.

The lefthander is 2-5 with a 4.53 ERA in eight career starts against the Cardinals, including 0-1 with a 7.45 ERA in two games this year (eight runs in 9 2/3 innings).

The under in 7-1-1 in Marquis’ last nine starts against the Mets, but the over is 3-1 in Williams’ last four against St. Louis.

The first two games of this series have easily hurdled the posted total, and the over is 9-3 in the last 12 Mets-Cardinals games played in New York.
