Indiana Will Be Better Off Without Davis If you are an Indiana Hoosier?s basketball fan you have to be happier today than you were last week. Finally head coach Mike Davis will be gone. It won?t be until the season is over, but at least he will be gone. If you have watched Indiana play basketball over the past few years, it is painfully obvious that Mike Davis has no clue how to coach. He has an All-American player in Marco Killingsworth and yet can?t get him the ball. He has fertile grounds for recruiting, yet can?t find a good class of players. Many people will say he had no chance to succeed after replacing Bobby Knight in 2000, and that may or may not be true. What we do know is that Davis couldn?t coach a team, and couldn?t make any type of intelligent decision. "I felt like it was time for this program to be united," Davis said at a news conference. "I want our players to get it out of their minds whether coach Davis is returning. It's time for Indiana basketball to move forward." Some people will give Davis credit for reaching the 2002 NCAA finals, but he did that with mostly Knight?s players. He has done nothing since. Davis was never qualified for the position to begin with. The players said that they had to have a Knight assistant coach to replace him in 2000 and Davis was selected. He was not the right choice. After Knight?s players left, Davis did nothing. Indiana was .500 in the Big Ten and lost in the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2003. The next year, the Hoosiers were 7-9 in the conference and finished 14-15 overall, their first losing season since 1969-70. That was two years before Knight arrived. Indiana went 15-14 last season, but failed to make the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. What else needs to be said? Davis should have never had the job to begin with, was terrible when he had it, and now Indiana can finally move forward once he is gone.
