Default Toledo and Rutgers are Bowl Bound

Rutgers is going to a bowl for the first time in 27 years. A spokesman for the Insight Bowl said Monday that Rutgers accepted an invitation to play in the Dec. 27th game in Phoenix, Ariz.

Strangely enough, the Scarlet Knights will face Arizona State, the same opponent they faced in the 1978 Garden State Bowl. Rutgers capped a 7-4 season with a 44-9 win over Cincinnati on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights have had just four winning seasons since 1984 and they lost 25 straight Big East games from 1999-2003.

Toledo will play in the GMAC Bowl on Dec. 21 against a team from Conference USA. The Rockets, co-champions of the West Division of the Mid-American Conference, finished the season 8-3 and 6-2 in the league. Toledo tied Northern Illinois for first in the MAC West, but the Huskies earned a spot in Thursday's league title game by beating the Rockets.

The GMAC Bowl will by Toledo's fourth postseason game in the last five years and 10th overall. The Rockets played in the Motor City Bowl in Detroit in 2004, '02 and '01.
