MLB Baseball Matchup - N.Y. Yankees at L.A. Angels - 8-27-06 N.Y. Yankees (76-52) at L.A. Angels (69-61)
The Angels will try to complete a three-game sweep of the Yankees when they send Joe Saunders (4-1, 3.06) to the mound against Jeff Karstens (0-0, 4.76) in a battle of rookies.
Los Angeles cruised to a 12-7 victory Saturday, improving to 7-2 on its current homestand. Meanwhile, New York has dropped four of five since sweeping a five-game series in Boston last weekend.
The Angels have clinched the season series heading into today’s finale, going 6-3 against the Bronx Bombers (4-1 at home). They also head into this contest having won eight consecutive games on Sunday.
Saunders is coming off a strong start against the Red Sox, as he yielded two unearned runs over 5 2/3 innings, but he wasn’t around for the decision as the Angels escaped with a 4-3 victory. The young southpaw has surrendered two earned runs or fewer in five of his six starts, including all four at home, where he’s 3-0 with a 1.01 ERA.
Saunders beat the Yankees 7-4 in the Bronx back on Aug. 11, yielding three runs (two earned) on six hits in six innings. Today, he goes up against a potent Yankee lineup that’s batting .282 against lefties (.274 on the road).
Karstens made his big-league debut in Seattle on Tuesday, and he gave up three runs on six hits (two home runs) over 5 2/3 innings. The righthander didn’t factor in the decision, as the Yankees lost, 6-5.
The over is 4-2 when Saunders pitches (2-2 at home), while Karstens’ start on Tuesday eclipsed the total.
The over is on a 9-2 run for the Yankees, and 10 of their last 13 road games have hurdled the posted price, including the first two games of this series. ATS ADVANTAGE: L.A. ANGELS and OVER |
