NFL Pick - New York Jets @ Washington N.Y. Jets (0-1 SU and ATS) at Washington (0-1 SU and ATS) Neither the Jets nor Redskins looked particularly sharp in their preseason openers, but New York has all but decided to hand the starting QB job to Chad Pennington. Pennington went 9-for-14 for 54 yards in New York’s 16-3 loss to the Bucs last week, but has impressed coaches with his arm strength since recovering from shoulder surgery. However, his status for tonight’s game is uncertain after he left Thursday’s practice for “personal reasons.” If Pennington doesn’t play, Patrick Ramsey will start and be followed by Kellen Clemens and Brooks Bollinger. With New York RB Curtis Martin sidelined with a lingering knee injury and likely headed for retirement, expect to see a lot of Derrick Blaylock, Cedrick Houston and rookie Leon Washington. Washington QB Mark Brunell, who clicked on 4 of 9 passes for 66 yards in Sunday’s loss at Cincinnati, is scheduled to play the first quarter tonight. Second-year pro Jason Campbell will take over for Brunell and play the second quarter, with Todd Collins starting the second half. All three passers threw an interception against the Bengals. The Redskins suffered more than just a loss on the scoreboard in Cincinnati, as star RB Clinton Portis separated his shoulder making a tackle on an interception return in the first quarter. Portis is out for the rest of the preseason. New York is 15-7 (14-8 ATS) in the last five preseasons, including 5-3 (6-2 ATS) on the road. Washington is just 4-6 SU and ATS since Joe Gibbs returned to lead the team in 2004. |
