NFL Preseason Pick - N.Y. Giants at N.Y. Jets N.Y. Giants (2-0 SU and ATS) vs. N.Y. Jets (1-1 SU and ATS)
The Giants will try to keep their preseason record perfect when they face the Jets in this annual Big Apple battle at the Meadowlands.
The Giants blanked the Chiefs 17-0 as a three-point home chalk last week, while the Jets rebounded from a 16-3 opening-week loss at Tampa Bay with a 27-14 upset victory at Washington.
Eli Manning has looked sharp in the Giants’ two wins, completing 71.4 percent of his passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. The third-year pro will be on the field for at least the first half, along with the rest of the starters. Coach Tom Coughlin said Jared Lorenzen will take the reigns from Manning before handing off to Tim Hasselbeck, who sat out last week. Rob Johnson will get the night off. All three are vying to be Manning’s backup.
Jets coach Eric Mangini has tabbed QB Chad Pennington as the starter tonight. Pennington, who was excused from last week’s game at Washington for personal reasons after going 9-for-14 for 54 yards in the preseason opener, will play the first half along with the rest of the Jets’ starters. Rookie Kellen Clemens, who is competing with veterans Patrick Ramsey and Brooks Bollinger for the backup job, worked with the second team in practice this week and likely will start the third quarter.
With starting RB Curtis Martin likely headed for retirement because of an injury, the Jets acquired RB Kevan Barlow from the 49ers this week. Mangini said Barlow’s status for tonight’s game is uncertain.
The Giants topped the Jets 15-14 as a 6½-point underdog last year, snapping a seven-game preseason losing skid to their rivals. The straight-up winner is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings. ATS ADVANTAGE: N.Y. JETS |
