Preseason NFL Pick - San Francisco @ Dallas - 8-26-06 San Francisco (1-1 SU and ATS) at Dallas (2-0 SU and ATS)
The Cowboys will make their preseason debut at Texas Stadium, as the 49ers visit the Lone Star State.
Dallas opened the season with two easy road wins, including Monday’s 30-7 rout of the Saints as 2˝-point road favorites. San Francisco started with an impressive 28-14 home win over Chicago, but struggled on Sunday in Oakland, losing 23-7 as three-point dogs.
Alex Smith had a horrible evening in Oakland, completing just 6 of 12 passes for 81 yards with two interceptions. Newly acquired backup Trent Dilfer replaced Smith and went 6 of 8 for 71 yards and a touchdown. Coach Mike Nolan said most of his starters, including Smith, will be on the field into the third quarter tonight. Dilfer will replace Smith, with either Jessie Palmer or Shaun Hill possibly mopping up.
The 49ers will be without center Jeremy Newberry, who is out for the season. The team will also be thin on defense, with three linebackers and a safety sitting out.
Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe looked in mid-season form Monday, going 12 of 16 for 156 yards and two touchdowns against the Saints. Backup Tony Romo followed with a 6-for-8 performance for 138 yards and a TD. Coach Bill Parcells was mum regarding playing time for his first-straings, but Bledsoe is expected to start, with Romo and rookie Matt Baker following. Former backup QB Drew Henson has been released.
Dallas will be thin at wideout, as outspoken Terrell Owens reaggravated his hamstring injury and will likely miss this game, along with fellow WR Michael Crayton. Finally, receiver Terry Glenn played against the Saints but has been bothered by blisters this week in practice.
The Cowboys are 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five exhibition contests overall and 6-0 at home (5-1 ATS) since Parcells took over in 2003.
The 49ers are 2-9 (5-6 ATS) on the road in the last five preseasons. ATS ADVANTAGE: DALLAS |
