Brandon Webb (13-5, 2.93) will try to bounce back from a rough outing when he battles the Giants’ Matt Cain (9-9, 4.70) in the middle game of this series.
Webb gave up seven runs (five earned) in six innings in Thursday’s 8-4 loss at Colorado. The rigthander has allowed 15 earned runs in his last four starts spanning 24 innings, which has sent his ERA from 2.51 to 2.93.
Webb is 6-4 with a 3.04 ERA in 14 road starts this year. He’s 7-5 with a 3.40 ERA in 14 career starts against the Giants, including 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA this season.
Cain is coming off a gem against the Padres, as pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-hit scoreless ball en route to an 8-4 road victory. The rookie has yielded two earned runs or fewer in five of his last seven trips to the mound.
Cain is 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA at home, including an 8-2 loss to the Diamonbacks back in late April, as he gave up four runs (three earned) in six innings. The righthander is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts against Arizona this year.
The Giants improved to 8-6 against Arizona this year (3-1 at home) with last night’s 5-0 victory. San Francisco is 6-2 in its last eight overall, while the DBacks have dropped 10 of their last 17.
The over is 6-1 in Webb’s last seven starts (4-0 on the road) and 7-3 in Cain’s last 10 outings (2-3 at home). Also, all three of Cain’s games against Arizona this year have topped the total.
